Amazon.com Untitled Document - Buying one World Food Programme FEED bag feeds a child in school for one school year.
- School feeding acts as a magnet, dramatically increasing enrollment, sometimes by as much as 100 percent. It also improves performance at school; children concentrate better on a full stomach.
- Girls who go to school not only marry later, but have half as many children than illiterate women. Furthermore, these children are healthier and better educated.
- $20 a year can transform a child's life and provide the tools for a lifetime of self-reliance. School feeding is a simple but effective way to beat hunger and poverty.
- The FEED Project is a partnership between the United Nations World Food Program and Lauren Bush, WFP Honorary Spokesperson.
 | Lauren Bush Honorary Spokesperson for the UN World Food Programme | "FEED is a project I initiated to help fight child hunger. For the past 3 years I have been an Honorary Spokesperson for the UN World Food Program (WFP), which is the food-aid arm of the UN humanitarian forces. Throughout my time as a volunteer, I have gotten to travel to 7 countries around the world (Guatemala, Cambodia, Sri Lanka, Chad, Lesotho, Tanzania, and Honduras) that are all receiving food aid from WFP. The people I have met during my travels struggle each day to obtain one of the most basic human needs--food. It breaks my heart to think that every 5 seconds a child dies needlessly of hunger and malnutrition." | "But the most hopeful thing I have seen during my travels is WFP's school feeding program, where kids are given a lunch meal in school each day. This is incentive enough for kids to attend school when they might not normally, and the meal is nutritious enough for kids to stay healthy and engaged in their studies. It is truly inspiring to see kids, who are born into extreme poverty, in school eager to learn and improve their lives!" | | | "The FEED bag is a sturdy, reversible bag made out of natural burlap and cotton materials. The design of the bag was inspired by the big bags of food that I have seen being distributed to schools around the world. Besides being a cool bag, it is a tangible way to make a difference in the fight against child hunger. Every FEED bag sold will feed a child for a whole year in school! Thank you for your support of the FEED project! With your help we will be making a big difference in children's lives around the world, one child at a time. So wear your bag with pride!" |

GOOD IDEA YET MISLEADING December 3, 2007 207 out of 222 found this review helpful
When I first saw this, I thought it was such a wonderful idea! I'm disappointed in the price though-when I received it, it stated that only $20.00 of my dollars would be going to the fund. Top it off, made in China. Where does the rest of the $$ go? It's better to give directly so that MORE OF YOUR DOLLARS GO WHERE THEY ARE DESPERATELY NEEDED!!
Don't buy, give. December 20, 2007 56 out of 86 found this review helpful
Why are people attached to the idea that buying something is an efficient way to help a cause? Think about it this way, this organization claims that "Each bag purchased feeds a hungry child for an entire year in school, and each t-shirt feeds 100 hungry kids for a day". How many more children would be fed if you simply gave your money to them and didn't receive a t-shirt or bag in return? Say 100% of the money goes to feeding the children instead of manufacturing the bag or tshirt, not to mention the rest of the mess created by the shipping, etc. Don't buy, give.
Love it! April 25, 2007 53 out of 59 found this review helpful
I love this (tote) bag. Good quality, very sturdy. I like that it is reversible, it's like having two bags in one! The white side makes it look sporty and the other side it's for a more natural look. On the white side it has three pockets, one on the front (could store a magazine) and two on the sides (perfect for cell pone, keys, etc). I will take this bag with me to classes, travels, oh... and I guess it could even work for my knitting stuff! Add to all above that it's for a good cause... excellent!
Perfection in a Bag April 3, 2007 47 out of 57 found this review helpful
To be able to get something this stylish and practical while supporting such a heart-warming cause is just incredible. Its a consumer's dream. We need more products like this. I've never felt so good about a purchase. It was the perfect gift for my mom and sister who both love the bag and the story.
Great idea, but look closely at the tag November 30, 2007 25 out of 31 found this review helpful
I absolutely love my feed bag. It's great for carrying books to class and stylish to boot. But I have to say that I was very disappointed when I saw that the bag was made in China, which probably means it was created with sweatshop labor. I don't want to compromise some people's rights in order to help others. The program should look into making the bag fair-trade, and then we can proudly show our feed bags!
