Save your money and get real Birks August 4, 2006 49 out of 49 found this review helpful
I bought a pair of these thinking they were only different in upper strap material. The footbed/sole is not cork like true Birks, but some sort of composite (rigid). Birk straps are softer and Birk corkbeds are more cushiony.
I wore them around the house to see if they were comfortable and the footbed became marked - just from an hour or so. Too bad because after that I knew I didn't like them. I tried on a pair of Birk Granada (the style this is based on) and immediately felt the difference.
While these are about 30%-50% cheaper, I would have rather spent more on the original Birks. I think these won't hold up as long and don't offer the same comfort. Also, you can have real Birks "repaired" so they never really wear out.
**Black version has large "Betula" on side in white.
Addition: After wearing these infrequently, the backing on the straps started to detach. This bunches between the top of the foot and the strap and is very uncomfortable. Leather on birks I have had for 10 years hasn't done this.
Not True Birkenstocks!!! June 16, 2006 45 out of 46 found this review helpful
These shoes are not make in Germany as the true Birkenstocks. They are Licensed by Birkenstock NOT manufactured by them. They are made in China and do not have the same feel as true Birkenstocks. BUYER BEWARE
New Birkenstock Fan May 25, 2006 11 out of 11 found this review helpful
I recd my order quickly, and shipping was free. These shoes are a very good price for Birkenstocks. This is actually my first pair but I've been looking at them for some time. My first reaction was that the shoes seems a little stiff, not soft and giving like I'm used too. However, I decided to give them a chance and break them in by wearing them around the house. I'm glad I did. I really like the comfort, particularly how they're shaped to fit the foot. When I'm wearing them it feels like I'm walking barefoot, nothing pinching my toes, etc. I also love this particular style. It looks nice on the foot, not too clunky. I just ordered a second pair and would have ordered a third if they still had the color beige. Thank you Midwest Sports and Birkenstock.
Problem with new Birkenstock sandals made in China August 22, 2007 11 out of 13 found this review helpful
After wearing my new Betula sandals for a few days, I noticed small red bumps on my left foot, under the top strap. Assuming they were insect bites, I left them alone. A week went by and the bumps were greater in number. I also noticed bumps developing on my right foot, in exactly the same place, under the top strap. It dawned on me that there was probably something on the strap that was irritating my skin and flipped it over. To my astonishment, in bold white painted letters were the words `Made in China'! Low and behold, my other shoe was stamped in the same spot, and the paint was causing my skin to break out in hard red scaly bumps.
Since when are Birkenstock's made in China, and what is in the paint that would cause such a reaction? This is very distressing as so many Chinese products are toxic, poison or just plain hazardous to our health. I contacted Birkenstock and they repled with a form letter to return the shoes, not addressing the problem at all. I will never buy Birkenstock sandals again. BUYER BEWARE!
