Product Description Can a shoe this sturdy give you happy feet? It can if it's a Unisex 4 Eye Gibson from Dr. Martens. Built with patented Flexlink technology for comfort like you've never known, this shoe sports a Goodyear welt that will guarantee you'll never see the inside of a shoe repair shop. The Crazy Horse leather upper should go well with any of your casual clothes, making them destined to be a wardrobe favorite. Benefits of Flexlink Technology As the foot flexes, the Flexlink technology in the forefoot filler softens the compression. An Ortholite insole with open cell foam increases breathability and aids in shock absorption. A leather-hinged footbed flexes in tandem with the Flexlink forefoot to enhance flexibility and comfort. Finally, a unique compression chamber cushion system absorbs footfall shock from heel to forefoot. About Dr. Martens Dr. Martens is the stuff of legends. It all began near Munich, Germany in 1945 when Dr. Klaus Maertens injured his foot in a skiing accident in the Bavarian Alps. To make walking easier during the healing process, he designed a shoe with an air-cushioned sole. Using old rubber tires, he constructed soles that had air trapped within closed compartments. He showed his prototype to his engineer/inventor friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they decided to develop and produce the shoes. Not only did the shoe solve the doctor's immediate problem, but it also started to sell well in Germany. By 1959 the two decided that they needed a company to produce and distribute the shoes, then called Dr. Maertens, in other parts of the world. At first, many manufacturers rejected the concept of an air cushioned sole as a short-lived gimmick. However, the R. Griggs Group, located in the village of Wollaston in England, decided to go along with the idea by creating the first work boot with the revolutionary sole. On the first of April 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced and named 1460 (1/4/60). To sell the brand name better in England, the name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was branded AirWair and the rest is history.

These shoes may be the last pair you'll ever need to buy... September 6, 2006 5 out of 5 found this review helpful
I bought my first pair of Doc's when I was 16. After joining the military, traveling to nearly 50 different countries, in sleet, snow, and boiling deserts in the Middle East, this same pair of shoes still look great today, 20 years later, albeit scuffed up.
Indeed, last week I had a casual business meeting; with a little spit, elbow grease, and an old towel I used to dry off my dog, they cleaned up quite nicely and worked well with my Docker khaki's.
They're exceptionally comfortable, timeless, and well worth the price. How many 20yr old pair of shoes do you own? That's like what, $5/yr?
The style colour conscience among you might want to consider another pair -- in black. They're that good, like an old friend, reliable, stylish, and right there with you to conquer life's many challenges.
I highly recommend them.

Uncomfortable February 22, 2007 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I owned a pair of Doc Martens for 10 years and when they gave out I ordered this pair. Unlike my last pair, these were extremely uncomfortable. I couldn't wear them without pain, so I returned them.
Worth the money and the trouble July 7, 2006 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
These shoes really do wear like iron, and are superbly comfortable--once they are broken in. The sizing takes some getting used to. I recommend buying (or at least trying on) Dr. Martens in a store the first time, to find out one's size in the British system. My USA size is 10D. Yet, the Dr. Martens that works for me is UK 10/USA 11. Go figure. When the first pair of these I got began to look shabby, I simply polished it with brown shoe polish. That pair of shoes is still fine, after being worn more days than any shoes I have ever had.
Subtle differences February 6, 2007 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
In the pictures there are several versions of this shoe that all look alike, THEY'RE NOT! These shoes are the "orriginal" version. They do not have the leather insoles, rather they are removable and fabric. They have the less agressive soles with long transverse groves ( the more common sole for this shoe is more of a traditional knobby pattern and is a little bit better for mud) They also have a slightly higher back than the later version sold in stores everywhere in the 90's. The higher back is a bit uncomfortable at first as it can dig into the back of your ankle. The toe is also a bit bigger than the common version. The shoes are of excellent quality, just not exactly what I thought I was buying.
Nice looking but ... September 19, 2006 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I had blisters and painful feet for 3 weeks until these shoes broke in. If you buy these, make sure you get band aids too.
