Fresh, innovative approach, superlative art November 26, 2000 15 out of 16 found this review helpful
H.R. Giger continually amazes, invoking a deranged specter of a shadow world that seems strangely paralell to our own murky unconscious. In this Tarot set, Giger choses 22 of his previously published works to represent the major Arcana. Make no mistake- the result is a new perspective, highly stylized and altogether breathtaking in its appeal to the more nightmarish aspects of existance. With this set, accompanied by an insightful and oft-times surprisingly adroit analyses, it is of course a must have for anyone interested in great art and the symbolism of the tarot. Whether your interest lies primarily in tarot sets or Giger's fantastical art, it will appeal to you regardless of the particular axiom to which you subscribe. One last thing- the cards are foil stamped in silver and are truly magnificent for those individuals searching for something a little different- and may well spark some creativity in those who want to visit new realms of thought as well.
major arcana by giger and akron January 10, 2002 7 out of 7 found this review helpful
It should first be stated that this is not a complete tarot, nor is it in any way suitable for beginners. It is for Giger collectors and cartomancers interested in a radical re-interpretation of the Tarot. What you get is a 22 card set of Giger's art selected by Akron to serve as Major Trumps, a poster-sized detail of a Giger painting which serves as a layout board and a book by Akron explaining his vision and interpretatation of the "Shadow Tarot," rejecting the usuall sweetness and light approach. Those who dare to gaze into the Abyss may start here.
Wonderfully Beautiful but.... September 16, 2001 5 out of 7 found this review helpful
this is a wonderfull system with beautiful cards but they are just to large to use easily for a tarot reading. If you want them as a work of art that is cool but if you intend to use the deck look somewhere else.
MORE THAN JUST DARK ART November 24, 2001 3 out of 7 found this review helpful
STUNNING AND PROVOCATIVE. THE WORK OF H.R. GIGER AND THE INSIGHT OF AKRON COMBINE TO CREATE A MASTERPIECE OF ARTWORK. THE OVERSIZED CARDS ARE A BEAUTIFUL ADDITION TO ANY DECK COLLECTOR. I FOUND THE BOOK A USEFUL TOOL FOR DISCOVERING WHAT WE ALL MAY UNCONCIOUSLY REPRESS AND FEAR TO BE TRUE.
Dark Tarot deck! December 11, 2002 3 out of 3 found this review helpful
This Tarot is not for the faint of heart. This has the potential, if used honestly, to reveal some ugly truths about your unconscious motivations. The images are incredible, and well chosen for the cards. The cards themselves are huge (and need to be to do the images justice). They convey a fascinating darkness to the reader. The book is short and too the point, giving great background info. I would recomend this to serious, mature tarot readers and anyone who likes Giger's work. There is some nudity and disturbing imagery, so if that bothers you, look elsewhere.
