The Medieval Hunt Explored October 19, 2003 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
If you are familiar with Cummins "Hound and Hawk", this book is an excellent companion. It broadens Cummins exploritaries into the "whys" and "reasons" and gives further light to the "whos" and "hows". If you are not familiar with Cummins, this book is an excellent primer into the world of the medieval hunt. It explores a broad expanse of the world of the medieval hunt including the notions of the nobility as well as the peasantry and touching (teasingly!) on female participation. It covers many of the "accepted" techniques of the gentleman as well as some of the more "wiley" practices of the peasant poacher. Over all, I found this to be a well rounded and informative study with ample illustrations and a generous bibliography for the serious student or amature historian.
