I just purchased this--don't know exactly what I am going to do with it, but a 20-inch, super-strong magnet for 9.99 with free shipping seems like a good deal. I am thinking once I get it, I will think of a great application. I tentatively plan to put it above my desk to hold scissors, staples, clips, pictures, etc. I also have a steel entry door and am thinking of using it as a door stop to keep this door open.

If you read the reviews, you'll notice that most people (or maybe no one) paid $70 for this magnet. I wouldn't even consider it at that price. But for less than $10, it's a great deal, and solves a big problem. That is having sharp knives in a drawer ready to cut you, or getting dull rubbing each other.
The magnet is strong enough to support large knives. It looks good. And mounts relatively easily with the 2 included screws.
Free shipping from Amazon clinches the deal. If you don't have one, the next time the discount comes along, grab one. I don't think you'll be disappointed.
I'm completely satisfied with this purchase.

Two thin (1mm) magnetic bars behind a thin (less than 22 gauge) perforated stainless steel mesh wrapped around 4 plastic ribs.
Not nearly as strong as I anticipated.

Yes, gold is not magnetic, however, that doesn't mean that gold doesn't enhance magnetic properties within magnetic materials. This level of science is above me but there are several articles that you can find on google that states that gold can enhance magnetic fields. Whether it does in this item, I do not know. Just thought I would add my two cents. Also, I rated it 3 stars because it is the middle of the scale and I haven't seen the product to judge it.
