Excellent Value for a very Happy Shopper August 4, 2004 62 out of 63 found this review helpful
I know the difference between akoya (round, perfect) and freshwater (potato-shaped, irregular) pearls. I purchased this SET (necklace and earrings!) hoping to get a decent set of pearls: I underestimated Amazon.com. They knocked the ball over the wall on this set (earrings & necklace for the price !) Weight: Necklace: HEFTY. You feel this baby in your hands. Hand-knotted, gorgeous clasp. Earrings: You will see them on your ears girls! Color: Soft ivory > white. A sheen on them that notes them as real. Surface: As in freshwaters, irregular. They are quite perfect and large in size (very unusual to find anything beyond teensy) for freshwaters. I've purchased a 2d set for my niece who just went off to college. I'm now thinking I should doublecheck my Holiday list too. This is a gorgeous set, arrives in a nice dark blue velvet pouch. Am certain this will bring a big twinkle to my eye for years to come.
I did good August 2, 2004 30 out of 31 found this review helpful
I was a little concerned ordering something as a gift for my wife called, "Potato Pearl Necklace." But I wasn't concerned after it arrived at work and I showed it around the office. No one I showed it to could believe how much I payed and after they found out what the offial amazon name was, a number of them ran back to their cubes to order it themselves. Bigger success at home. My wife thought they were great, hefty weight to the strand, feels like it must cost more, and the she wore them to work the next day where she was a hit. I'm terrible at jewelry and saw a review on this and thought I'd check it out. I did good, and only $30
Simply fabulous! July 9, 2004 13 out of 14 found this review helpful
Wow - This necklace and earring set is a tremendous value for the price. They are simply beautiful! I've received many compliments on their unique look and luminosity. This set would make a terrific gift - No one would ever guess the price, and I'm certainly not telling. How do they do it? I am extremely pleased.
Why buy fake? July 21, 2004 11 out of 12 found this review helpful
I'm getting married soon, and I've spent so much on the wedding already that I can't really afford to spend a lot on accessories. Not to mention I'm not much of a jewelry girl. So I thought I'd buy a fake pearl necklace and some fake pearl earrings at the department store for a little less than this amount. When I went out to the store, though, they seemed so obviously fake.... very lightweight and plastic. I didn't really want to be wearing fake pearls on my wedding day... what would that symbolize, anyhow?
So I found and ordered this set last week, and they arrived yesterday. I'm so pleased with them! Yes, they are definitely blemished, most have ridges on them and some are kind of smooshed on one side... but they're real! They have a nice weight to them, and are quite cool against your skin when you first put the necklace on. I think it looks beautiful, infinitely better than a strand of fake pearls would have looked, and it suits my style and the style of my informal wedding. Hurray!
What a Deal! July 18, 2004 10 out of 11 found this review helpful
These are "Big Fat Pearls" for an incredible price! The "lumpy" shape is what makes them inexpensive but it also what makes me like them. They can be worn more casually than a traditional string of pearls, i.e. with jeans, etc. They have a "natural-artsy" look to them, akin to the designs you see in "SUNDANCE" catalog but for a fraction of a fraction of the price (not a typo!!). I'm considering buying a set for each of my sisters. They are quite beautiful. I give them a 2 thumbs "way up".
