5 out of 5 stars More than the title implies   November 5, 2007

This book offers far more than just another collecion of crochet stitches. It starts with an outstanding
section on basic to intermediate crochet techniques, well illustarted with good diagrams Then comes a collection of fun to make Irish crochet type designs with roses and leaves, followed by a good section on motifs worked in the round. A nice selection of textured stitches, many with variations, is given with both written and symbol instructions. Color blending is covered, a nice surprise, as well as a good coverage of surface crochet and free style. The publisher should have used a better title to describe the varied
contents of this book. Symbol diagrams are well done, color close-ups of stitches show lots of detail. There's a lot of bang for the buck in this volume, which has a hidden spiral binding, making it easy to use.

5 out of 5 stars Wow! New Stitches!   December 21, 2007

This is a fine selection of stitches many of which vary from the usual stitch dictionaries. Great for people thinking of doing freeform. Excellent for crocheters just wanting a wider vocabulary for their work. I bought it on a whim, and couldn't have been more pleased.

For anyone who wants to add some snap or to freeform their crocheting. This book is one of those "must have"!. Well done book, so easy to understand, even for a beginner like myself.

2 out of 5 stars How can we tell???   February 27, 2008

Once again, I am reviewing the function that allows a prospective buyer to see sample pages from the book. So what is shown? Diagrams on how to hold a crochet hook! And I don't want to cheat and see how each technique is accomplished. What I want is to see what the finished pieces LOOK LIKE, so I can decide for myself if this is a book I'd like to add to my library.

Well, author, your secret is safe. I won't be buying the book at all.

1 out of 5 stars Not useful or inspiring   February 18, 2008

I immediately returned this book after ordering it based on the glowing reviews here.

There is nothing new here that is not in Harmony guide to Crochet. Not really. And the pictures are really too small to give much of a feel for the stitch.

There are no inspiring projects after the new stitches. I much prefer the book "Crochet on the Edge" to this. There are many unusual stitches in Crochet on the Edge, and you can see them used in an actual project. I do not have to make the project to benefit from its teaching value.
